I'm trying to more creatively draft a one-pager communications sheet for the process initiative I'm helping make happen (essentially, airport immigration lines will get shorter, faster, and capture information better!)
What better way to be creative than do a little online shopping? Since I'm at work, I figured I should have a work-related shopping search. I've been feeling gray suits lately, and like the idea of having a gray as my go-to neutral. These boyfriend style blazers easily transition to casual evening get ups for dinners with the girls - with a pair of dark trousers or straight leg jeans and a casual white button down.
What I love about boyfriend blazers is that you do not constantly feel the need to shift the blazer back in place after it rides up, as short blazers do. Boyfriend blazers provide a relaxed, easy style while still polishing the overall look. And bonus? They tend to fall below the waist, which provides better coverage for those seeking a modest work outfit.

Dressing the Part for a Working Girl
My final semester of college, when the world kept asking, “what are you going to do next?”, I purchased a suit. It was a simple black Eli Tahari suit from Macy’s (this is prior to my days of knowing fashion and labels, but I will say it was an AWESOME suit!) which I brought home with me for around $180, which people kept telling me was not as much of a fortune as I thought it to be.
LIES. I STILL think that’s a fortune for a suit. In fact, my three favorite suits currently in my closet were all $80 or less. You might be thinking they are low-quality or no-name brands, but Calvin Klien, Le Suit, and Piperlime all beg to differ.
A host of modest dressing women will be graduating soon and looking for their first jobs. Another host of modest dressing women will be leaving their current jobs. They both have one thing in common: interview outfits. For most women, an interview outfit is a classic suit, and in those pre-paycheck days of getting by, the less expensive the suit, the better (in the post-paycheck days, this is generally true also). Additionally, having a suit that does not make you feel conscious about your body – with a jacket that extends past your waist or trousers that simply graze curves – gives you an extra boost of confidence whether going to an interview or day 100 on the job.
I’ve found a few different suits and blazers for those seeking some professional and modest work gear.

[REMIX] Keep It Close to the Chest with a Vest
In these, the doldrums of winter, my entire existence yearns for something new. At this point, all the fun of the season has come and gone, as have the new trends and fashion excitement. Designers and trendmakers are turning their eyes to the spring (and really, the season after next), giving the current season no further mind. In the real world, however, we’re struggling to not grow bored of our wardrobe and find a new way to wear something we’re tired of wearing.
As most modest dressing women do, I have quite a few tunic-length button down tops. As the shirtdress phenomena picked up, so did I incorporate a bunch of them into my wardrobe. But now what? It’s boring to wear only the shirtdress over dress pants (what has become my standard work attire) and call it a day. I want something more!
Enter the vest. A quick and easy remix for a modest dressing woman’s wardrobe, a simple vest can make the difference between new and renewed. Reader Request: Styling Geo Printed Harem Pants from Forever 21
Our reader Sarah sent in a styling request:
I love the premise of this Reader Request because it's TOTALLY something I would do (if there were ANY places to shop near me.
Harem pants are an ongoing creative challenge for me and in general, the feedback I read is that the challenge is styling them without making them look like fancy jogging pants.
I pulled some inspiration from these ladies below for Sarah's request. With a simple white t shirt and a boyfriend blazer - or any blazer that has a relaxed fit and a slightly longer hemline - harem pants can be dressed up.
Here's a few different black and white blazer and blazer-like jackets to wear with these pants. However, the beauty of black and white pants is that ANY color will go with them - so if you own a bright coral, citrine, sapphire, etc blazer, then try that out!

Cobalt Into My Life
It's no denying it - cobalt blue has been the staple color of the season for a few seasons now. It took me a while to jump on board with this. Cobalt looked like the lighter, runnier version of an ink pen that had long gone past its writing usage.
My mind has changed with the seasons and I suddenly have an urge to incorporate into every outfit I could possibly muster from my closet. The undeniable blue boldly goes where no color has gone before - combining with the likes of lime green, solid blacks, and even after-Labor-Day whites (the new winter color combo?).

[Under $50] A Quick Target Look
I was recently at Target after a long absence (is it possible to be stocked enough? because if so, I accomplished that) and was FINALLY able to see the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collaboration.
While there's much to say about the 3.1 Phillip Lim line (more on that in a later post!), I did pull together this look quickly. Is black and white the new trend that's coming back? Seems like it. I like this look for a business professional look for the modest working woman.

Blazin' into Fall
It's going to take me some time before I can fully accept the oncoming of fall into my life. Don't get me wrong - autumn is by far my most favorite season - but there is something doleful about the passing of summer into fall that doesn't plague the other season transitions.
One thing that makes the passing palatable is the classic fall blazer. Now, many years out of college, I am a firm believer than all women, especially those who are college-aged, should have a blazer in their closet. While it's an article of clothing synonymous with business, it's also a telltale sign of academia and belongs on a college campus, along with insta-ramen and hoodie sweatshirts.
Whatever your impetus may be, a blazer is a must-have for a fall wardrobe and especially as a modest dresser. It's a versatile cover-up to sleeveless shells or tank tunics.

FAVORITE FIND: Petal Jacket from Anthropologie
I should probably finish going through all the sales at Anthropologie before declaring a Favorite Find...but blame that on my excitement after the first Favorite Find.
Either way, you win with this Petal Jacket in pink from Anthropologie. Marked down from $168 to $49.95 (Anthropologie's favorite number), this beautiful blazer swoops gracefully in the front and back with a hemline that extends well past your waist. Call it a sophisticated version of boyfriend blazer.
What I love is how long this jacket is without feeling like a leftover from the 80s. With a longer hemline, this blazer from Anthropologie provides maximum coverage without sacrificing on style or modesty.

FAVORITE FIND: Aryn K White Blazer at South Moon Under
South Moon Under is classified under the "look but don't buy" category for me. I once scored a $50 dress, which I purchased while gainfully unemployed and ultimately kept as a gift for completing my first 1/2 marathon.
Still, while it is in that category, I I like to look. A lot. And every now and then I get lucky, like today by finding this Aryn K White Blazer for only $29.99. Chances are that it'll sell out fast, so if you're in the market for a longer lengths blazer, great with jeans and a tunic top or for that modest office attire, this one is one to have.

Fall Favorites from H&M
Last Thursday, I departed for the Outer Banks for a friend's wedding (btw, the wedding was fantastic, my friend looked STUNNING [not surprisingly], and every detail was amazing) on a friendly, late summer's day. I returned to Virginia to crisp air and the glorious announcement of fall's arrival.
Along with the arrival of fall are new fashions in store. H&M is a Muslim girl's best friend (usually) when it comes to modest style and modest prices. We've found a few of our favorite pairings for you!
Mustard and blue, blazers and stripes - some of our most favorite combos here at Greater Lengths.
