[Sweet Modesty] Reader Request: Long and Maxi Cardigans

Not too long ago [oh shoot, my email says 8 days ago], I received a request from a reader at Sweet Modesty.

As you may have heard, Sweet Modesty + Greater Lengths have joined forces to provide you an exclusive service for making modest shopping inquiries.  Among our first requests, this reader is, not surprisingly, looking for long cardigans.

Hawa writes:
Hey, I've been looking for long/maxi cardigans, I can't seem to find petite sizes nor a reasonable price. I hope you can help me!
Hawa, of course we can!  Thankfully, the timing is right for us as we're hitting the first batch of seasonal sales at retail stores all over.  These long sweaters, also called boyfriend sweaters, for their long lines and easy fits, pop up but rarely does there seem to be more than one of these types of sweaters in the store.

I've gathered a few of them here - divided between neutrals (tans, black, whites, creams), colored (a rainbow of them!), and finally - dusters.  Dusters are the comfy, more stylish alternative to a great sweatshirt.  They're not as hefty as sweater coats, but usually longer than boyfriend cardigans.

What do you think?  Which one of you is making you reconsider your November clothing budget right now?

Cardigans at Piperlime

My scheduled plans for the day were modified, thus leaving me at home when my latest package from Piperlime (this Free People top and this Pim + Larkin dot print blouse, Gap Brand's upscale shop, arrived.

So yes, excitement for work-wear clothes this coming week.

In venturing back on to Piperlime, here are some colorful long cardigans that would work with my blouses, for a work-wear chic yet modest flair.

Anthropologie 25% Off Sale-on-Sale!

There's a little sale-on-sale action going on at Anthropologie these days.  Today (per their site) is their last day for the additional 25% off.  We already made Anthropologies Gathered Grace Cardigan our FAVORITE FIND of the week, and below have added on a few additional sale items we're loving.

While Anthro has a number of great pieces that can be worn by themselves (the store pride's itself on each piece being a work of art), many of their items look better when worn together.

Case in point, this popularly Pinterest-ed fashion photo from Anthopologie's catalag last September.

Similarly, we've built a few outfits of flowing fabrics, rich tones, and long (though sometimes quirky) hemlines that Anthropologie is known for.  Most pieces are less than $50 (especially if you purchase today with the 25% sale-on-sale).  Click on them for more info!

And just a few extras...

Warming Up to Fall

This morning, I woke up to this:

Rainy Day by NJC Photography

So naturally, all I want to be wearing today is hoodies and oversized sweater coats.

I do love that the crisp air makes it acceptable once again to be dressed in chunky, oversized things with long, drapey hemlines and tall necks - a Muslim woman's perfect season for style and comfort.

In the market for a new sweater, with style and modesty?  Here are a few we found for you:

Chunky, slouchy, pullover sweaters:

Sweater dresses:

Long, chunky cardigans, boyfriend cardigans, and grandmother sweater coats:

FAVORITE FIND: Nordstrom under $50

Nordstrom recently held it's Half-Yearly Sale for Women, which I completely missed out on.  However, sometimes you can score the best deals after all the sale items are gone.  You win on the sale on sale items.

Here are a few items in that very special category, all priced under $50.  Nordstrom under $50 is certainly a great win for all.

Cropped tops (to wear with loose, flowy things)

Flowy skirts.  Click on the item for more color options!

We've Got a Jumper...

Bringing it back to the 90's with this one...  Remember those jumpsuits we all had such a tenuous relationship with?  Loving the look, hating the look, buying the look, never actually wearing the look, wishing we'd at least attempted to pull off the look, resenting the months worth of closet time (and space) the neglected and still-tagged look had so rightfully earned?

Well.  I went there.  I couldn't help myself.  Here's hoping that a couple decades worth of maturity has improved that finicky fashion perspective from the past.

My thinking is to pair these modern day remakes with tops that effectively hide the rear and front area, yet expose the uniformity of the jumpsuit itself.  Let us know what you think!

An asymmetrical cardi tied in the front does the trick as well.  Try these.

And, finally, an extended palette for those ready to take the jumpsuit plunge.
