[Under $50] Tweets from Last Night

Last night I said this:

And then I styled myself an outfit for my friend Kate's wedding in June.  So, I lied.  Oops.  (But you remember how I get about school and procrastination).

The wedding is still 6 weeks away (I'm sure it feels like less time to her!) so it'll be a while until I post any photos...or maybe I'll do a dress rehearsal and post some early :)

I love this long, sea green skirt - it's so loose and flowy and FRESH, which is often hard to find in the stale, stagnant pool of black maxi skirts.  I plan to pair it with the cream lace cropped top (last seen at this wedding).  The skirt is only $25 from Forever 21 and the lace top was around $20 from Forever 21 last year.

The skirt sits high on the waist, so I can comfortably pair the cropped lace top without showing any stomach, important to a modest dresser like me.  Since the dress is long (it does strangely hang lower in the front than the back), I plan to wear my 3.5-inch Rampage Gersham heels to keep the skirt from sweeping the floor.

Looking to recreate the outfit yourself?  Here are some cropped lace tops to pair with those modest long skirts.  Let me know if you end up wearing the outfit yourself!

A New Look at Denim

Denim's younger, fresher cousin, the chambray shirt, has made its understated debut into fashion this summer.  The chambray has the chameleon effect of pairing with just about anything in your closet.  One of my style faves, Katie Holmes, has been one of its warmest welcomers and recently rocked the style with some modest style.

Katie's shirt is actually from the  Gap, which while sold out online, has a number of copy-cat derivatives at various other stores.  Match it with your favorite maxi skirt or dress and add a bit of flair to your next iftar gathering!

A wide world of options

Time and time again, this look has been coveted by the likes across Pinterest (myself included) for the effortless chic look.

The wide leg pant is coming back, and made multiple appearances at various Fashion Weeks over the past few months.  The added bonus is that the wide and loose look is perfect for the average Muslim woman's style, creating a fashion forward outfit for a casual evening catching up with a friend or, with a bit more tailoring, an office look.

Following that trend, check out a few of these finds.  I personally like a printed top with a pair of wide legs, though click on the items below to be taken to your wide world of retail options (all under $50!).

REMIX: Shirt Dresses and Cropped Sweaters

After a season of sweater dresses, the new "it" item is the cropped sweater and unavoidable at our favorite stores.  How to wear this new trend without making our Muslim selves uncomfortable with the exposure?

Answer: the shirt dress.

This look is a take on the classic button down shirt and sweater combo, but with a bit of chicness and edge to it.  As Muslim women, our closets likely house a shirt dress that pairs perfectly with a cropped sweater, so go ahead and take the leap - wear that cropped sweater and see how easy it is to stay in style!
